The engineering process is the series of steps taken by individuals (engineers or developers, scientists, etc.) to create a solution or product. These products are often used in everyday life, and can solve problems faced by consumers or other users.
Students begin by defining the problem and researching it. They then identify requirements that must be met. Then, they brainstorm ideas and consider what other people have done to solve a similar problem.
After they have created a list of possible solutions, they pick the best one and build a prototyping. This step shows students that they have accomplished a lot and they can see their idea turn into a real solution.
Students then test their prototypes in order to confirm that they are working as expected. They can also improve their designs using the prototypes.
The designers will likely have to go through many prototypes until they find a design that is both functional and complete. This iterative procedure teaches the designers to always improve their designs. They can’t be satisfied until they’ve done everything possible to create the best design.
